Which Dell Desktop?

Which Dell Desktop? :

What I’m Seeking : - A Dell mainstream desktop computer to complement a Dell Latitude D820 laptop (both will be linked via Linksys Wireless-G). Operating system will be XP Professional operating system rather than Vista for now.

Computing Needs : - Basically MS Office-based (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, etc) with heavy emphasis on Internet research and e-mailing … plus digital photo image manipulation (Adobe Photoshop Elements, etc). So high HD storage need is a must. Also need multiple USB port capability. There’s no need for high-performance computer gaming.

General Computer Savvy : - I’ve owned and used computers since the 1980’s but am not a guru by any stretch. Call me “somewhat computer literate” who sees a computer as a tool … not a toy … an end to a means … not an end in itself.

Computer-buying philosophy : - “over-buy” a little and grow into these capabilities … rather than “under-buy” and be wanting for capability later.

As of Now : - I’ve had my eye on the Dell Vostro 420 Tower and did a preliminary features/options check. How does this compare with the other Dell desktop lines in the “mainstream” category?

Thanks,

Re: Which Dell Desktop?

I dont really know alot about what dell spits out anymore. Alot of us here build our own systems of course, but i think vostros might be able to hold their value a little more than the dimensions down the road, because i don't think they're BTX plus they're business machines. However, i wouldn't reccomend getting the slim line version of any tower, opt for the mid tower (7" wide and 18" deep/tall). If you ever do perform an upgrade, mid towers are easier to do so with.

PCI-E requires 26 amps at 12 volts. That's a 650W PSU.
