Parallel Connection Hardware & Compliance
I have a Dell 1700n printer which is being used through a parallel connection.
I need to extend this cable connection to around 50'. The printer specs claims it is IEEE 1284 compliant. I cannot find a long enough extender that is also IEEE 1284 compliant considering that parallel printer cables start having issues with line lengths over 30' (in my experience.) So the question is, because the printer specs state the parallel port is IEEE 1284 complaint, does this mean I am slaved to only using IEEE 1284 complaint hardware? Or can I get away with using non-complaint connection hardware with the complaince being like USB 2.0 (It's great if you have 2.0 and the device, but it works either way, in most cases.) Thanks for reading. |
