New Monitor
I am looking at getting a new monitor. Here are the three I am considering
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824009125 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824009154 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824001295 I currently have an 8800gt but probably upgrading. I am assuming that can handle the resplutions of these monitors. I will be using it to game and watch movies. Thanks |

Re: New Monitor
The native resolutions for these monitors are 1920x1200 and 1920x1080, both supported by the 8800GT.

Re: New Monitor
I don't know what the quality was like on your old monitor.
If you were playing at a lower resolution than 1920x1080 on the old monitor, then you might notice games are slightly slower on the new monitor. Higher resolutions are more demanding on graphics memory (VRAM) which can reduce framerates. Is your 8800GT the old version with 320/640mb or the newer one with 256/512mb? They all look good and have similar specs. Even the Samsung with 5ms response time will be good enough to avoid screen tearing during fast on-screen action, but I would go for one of the 2ms Acers. The 5ms Samsung does not have a HDMI connector, so avoid it if that's one of your requirements. There are some very minor differences between the 2 Acer monitors. The viewing angles are about the same, but the brightness and contrast ratios are different. Check out some customer reviews on other websites to see which you prefer.

Re: New Monitor
You should have no problem playing games at the monitor's native resolution with that card.

Re: New Monitor
Contrast ratio is one of those things that's best understood by actually looking at 2 monitors to compare them rather than just looking at the numbers. If possible, check out your local PC store to see the difference between a low and high contrast monitor.
When comparing similar monitors, I tend to look for response time and native resolution before contrast ratio which I don't see as being as important. For example, if you had a 20000:1 and a 3000:1 next to each other then the 20000:1 might look a bit better. But if you had just a 3000:1 by itself, it would still be clear and perfectly usable. One of my 19" monitors, which I use for image editing and games, has a contrast ratio of 1000:1. No complaints at all, the image is clear and bright. Re: New Monitor
Thanks I may try running to a store to check that out. I have a new laptop with a really nice screen. That is the main reason I want to upgrade my desktop monitor. I have tried to figure out its contrast ratio but I am not seeming to come across that information. But I do agree without having the two monitors right next to each other, you probably wouldnt be able to tell much difference seeing them alone.
Its this one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834115507 . But I appreciate your help. |

Re: New Monitor
This is the most detailed spec sheet I can find for your Acer Aspire ( link). Nothing on the contrast ratio. There might be more details in your manual.

Re: New Monitor
Also, check different review site and consumer reports. That way you know what you're buying.
FYI my 19" LG flatron is 4ms and 1400:1, 1280x1024 5:4 L1932TQ my 22" LG flatron is 5ms, 8000:1, 1650x1050 16:10 W2241T I have them side by side, and the only different I can see is the whites. with both set to movie mode, same nvidia settings, the 19" has a yellower white than the 22".
