Re: Tv Tuner

read the description - its HDTV

Hauppauge turns your PC into an HDTV with their WinTV-HVR-1800. This PCIe X1 card has three tuners: FM radio, NTSC, and ATSC/clear QAM. The NTSC tuner is a 125 channel cable ready tuner for all of your standard over the air broadcasts or regular cable TV. The ATSC/clear QAM tuner supports all 18 ATSC formats including 1080i. You can watch the programming live or record it to disk as an MPEG-2 program stream.

Re: Tv Tuner

I have the 1600/1800 PCI unit. It's marked a 1600, but has all 3 functions like the 1800, who knows why. But it's a very good card. Note that MCE doesnt pick uo the ATSC or radio feeds, but WinTV is better than MCE I think.

Re: Tv Tuner

Yeah I went and checked the description right after I asked the question. Im dumb. Another question. I keep seeing people use dual tuners, Im assuming Its to be able to record multiple things at once. With one tuner can you record something and watch something different? What are the benefits of dual tuners?

Re: Tv Tuner

Dual TV Tuners allow you to watch one channel while recording another.

This one from Hauppauge is a dual tuner card that can record analog and digital channels, and has all the same features as my other link.

Re: Tv Tuner

@koala

do you know if you can record HBO or in my case like movie channels that would normally be locked

with my satellite channels 1-300 are basic channels and most of the channels above are locked and must be paid for. can the locked channels be recorded too?

like I have 7 movie channels (no commercials only movies 24/7) can these be recorded with a tuner/capture card?

Re: Tv Tuner

Using a TV tuner card, you can watch and record any channel that you would be able to watch on your normal TV, but not locked channels if you don't already pay a subscription.

Re: Tv Tuner

Anything you can watch on your normal TV can be watched on a TV tuner card. Just plug the cables into the tuner card instead of the back of the TV.

ditto.

also, make sure the card you select has an ATSC tuner as well as the NTSC/cable tuner. You'll thank yourself down the road.
