Problem with Alt Key not Working

Hi,

When using microsoft WORD yesterday the right ALT key on my keyboard stopped working ?

Since investigating the fault I have found the following:

. ALT key not working on any applications
. Every key other than ALT key working according to keyboard checker
. No viruses according to AVG or MalwareBytes Antispyware
. Equivalent of ALT key still working on Windows XP On Screen keyboard
. Latest driver installed per Microsoft Support

I do not have a spare keyboard or access to a 2nd PC so cannot carry out testing with other hardware.

I am wondering whether I need a new keyboard and was hoping someone could advise me if this looks to be the case or of what further testing can be done to verify this.

Thanks for any advise.

Re: Problem with Alt Key not Working

Trying another keyboard would really be the best thing to do. See if you can borrow one from someone nearby, just plug it in and start your system up and see if it works then. As long as it has the right connectors, usb or ps2, to work with your computer, you'll know very quickly.

Problem with Alt Key not Working

Hi Grimx133,

I took the keyboard to a hardware shop yesterday and they tested it to tell me that the ALT key was broken.

I have now purchased a new one and it is working again.

Thanks for your advice.
