Computer Fails to Keep Time & Date - Battery?
I have a Compaq Presario 6000 desktop. I've had the computer for a number of years. Recently my computer has failed to hold the set time and date. This in turn is disabling a number of security programs that I have running on my machine including my firewall (I believe). Each time I turn the machine off in the evening and turn it on the next day I have to reset the time, date, etc. as well as, a number of programs.
My question: Is there a battery inside that needs to be replaced? If so where would I find it? And is this something that I can replace myself? Thank you for you help. |

Re: Computer Fails to Keep Time & Date - Battery?
there is a battery on the motherboard that you can replace. Its a flat battery about the size of a US quarter.
Go into the bios and see if the time is correct there. If not then the battery will need to be replace.

However, go ahead and change the battery, the battery is a cheap fix if its the problem.
