HP vs17 monitor and other problems.

I have so many problems right now it's not even funny. I'll start with the basics. First, my monitor nor my modem show up in device manager. Of course both are apparently recognized to some point, because I'm using the monitor and the modem right now to connect to the internet and view it, not really in that order.

However, with the monitor not working I cannot fix the refresh rate, it scrolls really oddly and other fun things that mean it's got a really slow refresh rate. I also cannot adjust the sound or even turn it on. In fact, the only sound it does make now is to crackle at me when I turn it off.

Things I have tried:
  1. Add New Hardware: I could not however hard I tried looking find it in the lists. I've looked in HP, Hewlett Packard, and even Compaq's lists on the "Display All Devices" setting.
  2. I switched monitors. Same problem with the other monitor. But I don't use it because it's too big and the drivers are only compatible with Vista, I use XP.

Weird thing the computer did: Thought I added a new printer.

I understand if anyone thinks this is in the wrong forum. However, I do think the fact that my monitor isn't really recognized could possibly be the reason there is no sound. I do know it's the reason I can't adjust the refresh rate of my monitor.

Re: HP vs17 monitor and other problems.

I -really- need an answer. So, I'd appreciate any help I can get with this problem.

And I completely apologize if bumping is not allowed.
