Posible power supply failure

First time posting so i hope this in the correct area,

I have a Lenovo Thinkcentre tower that is going on 5 years old. Still a decent PC with a 3.2 P4HT and 3g of ram running XP.

What has happened is the computer will no longer boot properly. You press the power button and it powers up and all case fans kick on but no video is being sent and anything connected to any of the I/O's does not receive power. What everyone in our department is thinking is the power supply has become defect and needs to be replaced.

I plan on taking the PC apart tonight peice by peice to try and isolate the defective hardware but i though i would ask you guys what you think might be causing the issue. Any questions asked i will try to respond too.

Thanks, Scott

Re: Posible power supply failure

It wouldn't hurt to take a new and/or working power supply and try it out if you have access to one. I've had a similar problem with my 2nd computer. The computer would remain unpowered, except for the fans for about 10 minutes, and then the rest would turn on, and after a few weeks of this, it wouldn't power anything at all. I bought a new 485 watt PSU from newegg for 20 bucks and now it works glitch-free :)

Either that or your motherboard might have died :-/
