Monitor Resolution Problem
I have a 22" Acer AL2216W, with a native resolution of 1680x1050. I connected it to my laptop via VGA cable, and set the computer to display on the external monitor only.
The first time I connected, it ran perfectly fine. When I turned on my computer the next day, however, the monitor could not display at its normal resolution. There is no option for 1680x1050 under the list of available resolutions. There is 1600x1024 and 1600x1200, but not what i'm looking for. I have a Nvidia Geforce go 7150m, and because it is a mobile chip with mobile drivers, it cannot do custom resolutions. Also, if it helps, I was tinkering around with the TMM (Transient Multi-Monitor Manager) in the Windows Task Scheduler. I disabled TMM, but re-enabled it after a reboot. I also installed drivers for the monitor, didn't do a thing. I think the problem has been due to windows not knowing that this is a widescreen monitor. Any help would be great. |

Re: Monitor Resolution Problem
there are 2 ways to change your resolution...one is through the nvidia control panel, the other, is to right click on your desktop, and click properties, and go to settings. Try both ways. If that don't work, try updating, or reinstalling the latetest video driver at http://www.nvidia.com

Re: Monitor Resolution Problem
Obviously, you did not read past the first line of my topic. I wrote that 1680x1050 is NOT an available resolution, and my nvidia control panel does not support custom resolution.
Someone else? |

Re: Monitor Resolution Problem
I think I fixed my problem, but I don't entirely know why.
I failed to mention that I changed the VGA cable after the first time I connected, because the cord's thin rubber protection got interfered by the outside power and caused the screen to flicker. I changed to a thicker cable, but I hadn't noticed that Pin #9 was removed. The old cord had all it's pins in place. So the conclusion was that missing pin #9 led to a non-wideecreen display. Howeve. I looked up the missing pin issue, and apparently that specific pin isn't even used. So... The culprit is the VGA cable I used, but not entirely sure why |

I have also seen cables both missing and having pin 9.
