_NEC DVD+-RW ND-6650A won't play DVDs

Had a problem with my laptop recently, which meant I had to have my hard drive replaced and a new version of windows installed. Start all over basically.

Now I can't play DVDs. The drive can play CD-ROMs and audio CDs, but can't play DVDs. In fact it doesn't even recognise if there is one in the drive or not.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drive but still no joy. I've never had to install decoders, drivers, etc, so that's all new to me. What can I do?

Re: _NEC DVD+-RW ND-6650A won't play DVDs

Right I followed this link:
http://support.necam.com/OEM/

Clicked on the link to ND-6650A, and then the link for firmware, but I couldn't see one for my drive:
http://support.necam.com/Optical/dow...FlashFirmware/

then I followed the second link
http://www.majorgeeks.com/K-Lite_Meg...ack_d5230.html

And downloaded the codec pack, and installed it, but that hasn't seemed to have made any difference either. But then I don't really understand the software Ive downloaded. Is there something I should run from this could might solve the problem?

Hello mancguy,

when you installed the codex package /at the end of the install did you have it scan your system for broken or corrupted codex's ?

if it did it on it's own did it find any & did you remove them so that it would reinstall that codex

for in that pk. it has all the codex's that a system needs to veiw / listen to all formats

if this did not happen the you can look in your progams list & find the downloaded program & run the tool from there

let me know

Mike

Re: _NEC DVD+-RW ND-6650A won't play DVDs

hello again ,

also you may need to do this

Step 1: Start Registry Editor
Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK. Registry Editor starts.
Step 2: Delete the UpperFilters registry entry

1. In Registry Editor, expand My Computer, and then expand HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

5. In the right pane (topic area), click UpperFilters.

Note An UpperFilters.bak registry entry may also appear. To delete the UpperFilters registry entry, you must click UpperFilters and not UpperFilters.bak.
6. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
