Headphone stereo playback issue

This probably has a really simple solution. I plug my stereo headphones into the headphone jack on the front panel. These headphones have a small volume control and stereo/mono switch along the cable. I have used these headphones in a different computer before, and they worked fine. With this computer, only the left side makes sound when switched to stereo. When switch to mono, the sound comes out of both headphones (but does not play stereo sounds, i.e, if the sound is set to 100% right, nothing plays). I feel this is a settings problem, but I cannot find what to change.

Anyone have any idea? I know I have probably had this problem before, but I do not remember how to fix it, and I cannot find anything online. I just want to find out why my headphones are only receiving the left speaker sound.
