Grinding fan?

I had my computer open and decided to clean some dust out before I put it back together. I unscrewed the CPU fan, wiped some dust off it's blades and got a LOT of out of the heatsink. I screwed the fan back on and put it back together. But when I turned my computer back on, it made a loud grinding sound that I found out is coming from the CPU fan. I think it's from just shaking around, but I'm not sure. I can't tighten the screws anymore.

Re: Grinding fan?

Maybe some power cables are touching it. Try opening the case and watching it power up, and see if it is shaking.

Re: Grinding fan?

The blades on the fan are very delicate, so cleaning can sometimes cause them to bend slightly. Replace the fan as soon as possible to prevent overheating and possible damage.

Note: Whenever you remove the heatsink, you MUST replace the thermal paste.

Re: Grinding fan?

I think Koala's right. There's no cables near it. I've got a friend who can hopefully get me just a fan so I don't have to replace the heatsink.
