Hello & welcome to TSF ,

you can use either one

your system can handel either type / now if you hav 2 sata harddrives installed then you will have to install an IED

your system can handle 2 sata drives & 4 IED drives

Re: which dvd burner do i need?

i guess im going to have to take the side cover off. cause i have 2 drives in it now. i wanted to remove the dvd rom drive and add a dvd burner in its place. i just wanted to make it as easy as possible and use the same connections. thats why i wanted to know which one it was. are the 2 cables noticeably different? what do they both look like?

Re: which dvd burner do i need?

Hello ,

yes they are very differnt !!

one is a flat cable that is about 2 inches wide & gray in color

the other is alot thinner and thicker and normally come in red or blue

and the connector to the motherboard are differnt

follow this link and it will show you what an IED cable looks like

this is what an SATA cable looks like

Just thought you should know (SATA) is faster
