Hi just wondering, my computer when on but just idoling is using 303 of 511 physical memory, is this right as this seems high when not actually doing anything.
I gather physical memory is RAM....I have 512 and was looking to up it to 1mb. Also the cpu says 100%, does that mean that the computer is at its full capacity, or does it mean that it is 100% working properly. ?

Hey
Even if just sitting there, there will still be programs running in the background taking up system resources. CPU at 100% means that the computer is working at its maximum capacity. It shouldnt be at 100% when it "is just sitting there". I would check for unnecessary background programs or even virus'. THe memory upgrade to 1GB (not MB, GB being thousands) might help, but I would also check the overall speed or the computer, what processor do you have? It could be that your computer cant handle what ever you are using it for. Others can further help/elaborate we 's dont have a very high IQ

I have a 3000+ 512 ram, geforce fx5200 card and I have used many programmes lately to check for spy and virus and nothing found, I am not sure what programmes are running in the background ? but there must be a way to make the cpu not use all of its resorce ? I am viewing the usage via a programme called freemeter..... it shows page at about a 1/4 and memory 3/4 and cpu 100% .....I have 120 gb hard drive......I just think that the computer runs a little slow... I have many games loaded but still have about 50% hard drive left ??? I have looked what it says in device manager and it said that the cpu is working properly..

The latest is that it isnt a virus it seems to be whats running in "services", in system configuration, the problem is that I can disable all and the cpu returns to normal opperation, but when enabled all the cpu is running at 100%.
The problem I have I just dont know which ones to turn off, I tried turning some off and lost my internet. please help, as i dont know if it is doing any damage to the cpu....

I would suggest going to www.blackviper.com it's a good site for help in disabling "services" in XP.
