Comp restarting?
My computer keeps restarting at random times but usually when using lots of cpu time like playing games etc so this led me to believe my processor is to hot. I have a AMD Duron 800mhz and it sits about 50C when the motherboard sits around 32C. the cpu fan runs at 2600rpm. Should i get a new fan and heatsink or do you think the problem is something else? i use to run a AMD 2000XP with same fan but different motherboard and memory and at that point the computer randomly restarted as well, leading me further to believe its the fan and heatsink?
I want to upgrade the processor anyway so was thinking of AMD Sempron 2400 (best in my budget) with new heatsink and fan, do you think this would solve my problem? Some people say 50C is fine others to hot and some say 2600rpm is to low others fine? Any help appreciated? I've heard it could be power trouble but don't know anythig about this, anyway of telling? i think its overheating rather than power because the computer normally restarts when the computer is very busy, i.e using lots of processor? |

I had a similar problem 2 months back. It would restart during games and copying CD's. It went back to the shop (under warrenty luckily) and they replaced the motherboard.
Costly exersise if you've got limited dosh. |

50C at idle means you don't have sufficient cooling, that's the first thing I'd address. It's hard to imagine this being a MB issue, I think it's a simple cooling issue.
The speed of the fan is dependent on the design of the HS, my CPU fan is running at 2600 RPM on my P4-3.2ghz processor with the stock Intel HS, works just fine. I'd start with a better HS/Fan for your processor, or if you're upgrading the processor anyway, make sure you buy a quality fan/HS for the job.
