Computer Crashes I NEED HELP!!

I'm running a AMD P4 with 512mb of ram. My operating system is XP pro. Whenever I try to play a game or run more than 2 or 3 programs at the same time my computer crashes. I've heard that a lack of memory would do this but with 512mb of ram seems like I would have enough to run games and a few programs.
My drivers are up to date on my video card and mother board. Any other suggestions??

I need Help!!

I right click my computer and read the follwing as to my computer setup.

AMD Athlon (tm) 4 processor
1.57 GHz
512 mb ram

As for cooling it has two fans running all the time, and no errors.
I recently installed a Nividia GeForce fx5500 video card. Prior to that I couldn't run games because the card that came with the computer wouldn't support the newer games.

I still am lead to believe it is a AMD and XP conflicting problem

On a second note I was told that the FX cards are not made for gaming. Someone please correct me if I am wrong

I need Help!!!

I took the side panel off but because of a brace I can't read the writing on the power supply. I don't feel to confidant about taking it all apart so I think I'll take it to a computer shop and pay to have it fixed.
Thanks for all the advice.
