Computer not recognizing CD-Rom drive

I have a CD Rom and a DVD drive on my computer. However, my computer is not recognizing my CD-Rom. When I go to My computer it shows nothing! I cannot open the drive manually either. When trying to copy music to CD'd I get a message stating that no drive is recognized. Any help would be appreciated

Hi,

Has the drive worked before or is this a new build?

The drive has worked in the past. I very seldom use it. My son wanted to download music and downloaded "Aris". Ever since he did that the computer is running very erratic. Constant freezes and boot offs.
