[SOLVED] CPU fan quesion. What's this light for?

I got a computer from someone and when I was looking at it closely, I noticed that there was a wire unplugged from the cpu fan.

So I looked up the fan model online and I found this picture:

The fan I have doesn't have that wire with the yellow light on it. (it looks like a light)

What's that for?

If you re talking about Amber looking shield... Thats not light.. That's CPU Thermal sensor, sandwiched between cpu and heat sink (Inside Thermal pad or paste). This thing detects CPU temperature.

Hope that helps

That's a thermal sensor/diode that sense the CPU's temperature.
