I just upgraded my WinXP to service pack 3, and I am suddenly unable to use my Epson Perfection 1650 scanner to capture an image anymore.
I launch the 'Epson Smart Panel' application, and click "scan to file" button. Twain 5.53A pops up a splash screen, and I get to my scanner preview window. The preview operates the scanner to automatically show me what is on the scanner bed. So far, so good. Next, I drag my selection box to select what I actually want to scan on the preview image. I then click the Scan button. At that point I get the usual Windows error: File.exe File.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. Please tell Microsoft about this problem. Error signature: AppName: file.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.1 ModName: unknown ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 35626673 ** I searched both Epson and Microsoft's support sites, but can't find anything specific about this kind of error. I did see one other post on this site that suggested the problem could be a bad image thumbnail in the \documents and settings\%username\Application Data\EPSON\%dirname directory. I followed the directions and deleted the BMP thumbnail image, but it didn't get me past the problem. Any other ideas? |
