EPSON Perfection 2400 scanner not detected
A new user. Have a scanner problem I've not been able to solve. Am running WinXP (SP1) on a DELL L866r computer. Added an Epson Perfection 2400 scanner to the system abt. 2 yrs. ago and it's worked without problems. Scanner is connected to computer through USB v. 1.1 port.
Recently installed a USB v. 2.0 controller card w/4 ports. Controller was detected and installed without problems (verified using Device Manager). Connected scanner to one of the new USB 2.0 ports and am now getting a 'Scanner not detected' error message. Have NOT tried disconnecting scanner from USB 2.0 port and reconnecting to original USB v. 1.1 port; would prefer to solve 'Scanner not detected' problem first, if possible. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. --- Juego |

EPSON Perfection 2400 scanner 'not detected' error message
- Scanner does, indeed, show up in Device Manager which reports scanner installed and functioning properly, with no yellow exclamation point or red "X" to indicate problem(s).
- Have tried two other devices in the new USB 2.0 ports, a SanDisk "Cruzer" Flashdrive and a digital media card reader, and both worked perfectly. For as-yet-unexplained reason(s), the scanner software doesn't "see" the scanner itself even though both appear to be properly installed. -- Juego |

It could be that the driver does not like the USB 2.0 port or is incompatible somehow. You should check with the Epson website and see if they have an updated driver for it. You might want to see if they have newer firmware for it too.

"crazijoe":
· Had consulted EPSON online Tech Support section for advice prior to posting my question in Techsupportforum.com . Downloaded and installed latest driver available for scanner; made no difference. Still got 'Scanner not detected' error message. · Sent email to EPSON Tech Support and received standard "uninstall hardware & software, then re-install software & hardware" advice which also failed to eliminate the 'Scanner not detected' error message. Scanner software and scanner itself both install properly and are recognized by WinXP but, for yet-unknown reason(s), the scanner software doesn't "see" (detect) the scanner itself. · Not sure what you mean by "firmware". Do you mean a BIOS upgrade? If so, saw no mention of that in EPSON Tech Support. I don't think a BIOS upgrade would explain why the scanner worked perfectly well for several years through the USB 1.1 port and now won't work at all, even when connected through the same USB 1.1 port. -- Juego |

Firmware is the software that is in the device itself. Each component of the computer has a firmware, like the CDROM drive, hard drive, etc. This is upgradable like the MB BIOS.
Throwing dice in the air now. I don't know what to tell you on the scanner except have you tried different software to capture the image, like photoshop or picture it? |
