DVD RW driving me batty

Well long story short I got a virus and end up reformatting my computer. Since the reformat I cant burn A DVD or CD. I have used Nero and Easy DVD CD burner. Nero just locks up spins the cd like crazy then ejects it and starts to write an ISO file but it locks up then. EDCB tell me that my drive is not capable of burning cd/dvd's. I am trying to find the manufacture of my DVD RW drive but it was a generic one and is not labeled with one. Any one know of a utility that will tell you the manufacturer and model of your hardware or a way to resolve my problem. I have the latest version of Nero and EDCB. I will add that before the reload everything worked fine. Some one told me it could bve SP2 cuasing the problem but I reloaded the machine again and installed Nero first before doing any updates and tried it with the same result.

System Specs:
Windows XP home SP2
Pentium 4 2.0Ghz
512 MB 2100 DDR
80 GB HD

Anyone who can guide me in a direction I have not thought of would be most welcome.

Thanks for the info that helped me find the manufacturer and I updated the firmware for the drive but under the driver section on the webpage it says N/A so back at square one unable to burn a disc.

Have you uninstalled the drive in Device Manager, booted and let Windows discover it again?
