What memory shall i buy?

I recently bought a P4 3.2ghz and a IC7 Abit motherboard. i am using the RAM from my old machine (512mb DDR266) and the machine gets loss of framerate in games sometimes.is this ram too slow or do i need more? any ideas?? please help!! cheers

I have the ABIT IC7-G, and it supports your memory, as well as faster memory up to DDR-400, which is what I use in mine. In truth, I would expect the video board to be a lot more limiting than your memory if you're running it in dual-DDR configuration. If you have a single module, then you may want to invest in a pair of PC3200 modules for maximum performance.

In my past experience if you are experiencing framerate choppiness it may be you need a better video card. Ram helps but if you dont have a high end video card these day alot of the newer games especially FPS the tend to chop like crazy

Cheers for the advice, will get 2 ram chips ddr400 when i get some cash , unless Santa brings it

btw i have a MSI Gforce4 MX420 64mb anyone think this card is good enough?

These days a 128mb is almost the minimum requirement when it comes to video card but the more money you spend the better and faster the card.

That's your first priority, that's a very marginal video card for any newer games.
