Ethernet Port

If the ethernet port is working is there supposed to be a light or blinking light in the port? I think mine stopped working in a PC because there is no light. It worked before but now the PC won't access the internet. I know the cord works because when I plug it into another PC it immediately accesses the internet. Can someone let me know ASAP. Thanks.

Re: Ethernet Port

It's an older computer that I can't see any name on it. It has WinXP Professional installed. It was working fine and suddenly stopped accessing the internet. It's set up with DSL. This is the only thing I can tell you about it.

Re: Ethernet Port

Can you open up the command prompt (click Start, click Run...type in cmd)

Now type in following there:

ipconfig /all

See if you get and IP address such as 169.xxx.xxx.xxx

Re: Ethernet Port

Click Start , right-click My Computer , and select Properties .

Click the Hardware tab, and then the Device Manager button.

Click the plus sign (+ ) next to Network Adapters, and select the name listed inside the Network Adapters category.

Right click on the adapter name , and then choose Uninstall .

Try to restart the computer and see if your internet is working again.

Also, try to do ipconfig /all again and see if you still get the same 169.xxx.xxx.xxx address
