Troubleshooting: no sound on new desktop
This is one I just built. Everything works fine, except the sound. I installed the drivers via the motherboards installation CD, several times now as someone told me they had to install theirs a few times, but still no luck. My MB accepts HD audio and RealTek 97 headers and although I had originally plugged in the HD audio I gave RealTek 97 a try but still no luck. Yes, the volume is on. I am sure I plugged the speakers into the right jack, and just in case I didn't, I plugged them into every jack while music was playing...still no luck. And yes, the speakers work in my laptop, and the volume is on.

Re: Troubleshooting: no sound on new desktop
I doubt this is a hardware failure, I have had problems getting the computer up and running as well as installing the OS, and all were a ruled a hardware failure by some, but they just turned out to be mistakes I had made plugging things in, configuring the BIOS, etc. I am sure I am just overlooking something here.

Re: Troubleshooting: no sound on new desktop
Hi, try downloading the sound drivers from the motherboard manufacturers website. Uninstall your old drivers and any audio software from Control Panel, and uninstall the sound card and/or any flagged components in Device Manager.
Restart and install your downloaded drivers. If using HD Audio, ensure it's enabled in BIOS. (I've noted many cases of drivers on installation cd's not being Vista compatible).

Re: Troubleshooting: no sound on new desktop
My BIOS does not give the option of HD or Realtek 97, just to enable or disable onboard sound, and that is enabled. My MB does support either form of Audio, and my case has both plugs, both of which I have tried. No flagged components in device manager.

Re: Troubleshooting: no sound on new desktop
Hi,
If there are no flagged components in Device Manager, that would indicate that drivers have been installed properly for everything. Is your soundcard listed in Device Manager? Do you have the options for a souncard in Control Panel's Sound? What motherboard are you using?

Hi betyourlife
![]() Are you using a Vista computer? Is your speaker self powered or it takes power from the computer port itself? Is yes, can you try to use a self powered speaker on computer and see if that works ![]()
