We have had an NEC 1720M LCD monitor for a couple of years now. Recently, we started having problems with the display taking a long time to come up when restarting or cold booting the computer. At first, we thought it might be the video card, but we eliminated that as a problem by switching the monitors out on my computer and my son's computer. The problem followed the monitor to the other computer.
Problem is this: When booting the computer, the screen stays black and the power light blinks amber throughout the period that the monitor is black. This can continue for 30+ minutes when--finally--the display will come up, at which point, we'll see our screensaver. Sometimes, we can move the mouse (to wake up the computer) and the display will show the desktop, green monitor power light comes up and all is well. Othertimes, the monitor will go back into black screen...so we'll try again in a few minutes, and usually be able to successfully get the desktop up. Once the display is up, it stays up--we've not had a time that is went back out until we turn off the computer again. This seems like something that could be a simple repair, but it is something we haven't tackled before. Does anyone have advice on what could be going/have gone bad on the monitor and have directions on how we could do the repair(s) ourselves? TIA! |

Re: Can I repair this monitor?
Hi, try downloading and reinstalling the drivers, and also the manual for possible clues as to what's at fault.
MultiSync LCD1720M http://www.necdisplay.com/SupportCenter/Archive/ The 1720M is just past half-way down the scroll page.

Thanks, Houndog-
The reloaded driver worked and has actually improved the performance of the machine, as well! I feel so silly for not having thought of that over all of these months! We were on the verge of buying a replacement monitor this weekend, so you have saved us some serious $$$! ![]() Best, Cathy |
