Hello all, Long time browser, first time poster here.
My Problem: I Finally decided enough was enough, and built my own system. The experience has been fantastic by the way.. Now, I'm no expert but I am extremely familiar with Computers. So here's the problem. For the life of me, I cannot get my microphone working. I have spent the ENTIRE day adjusting settings in the advanced audio properties but to no end result. So what follows are the steps I have taken. Removed onboard audio drivers. Disabled onboard HD audio within BIOS. Installed Diamond Xtreme Sound 7.1/24bit PCI Audio Card. Updated to newest available drivers. Fiddled with audio settings and browsed forums for about 8 hours now. Here are my system specs: (a DxDiag.txt will be included for verification) BIOSTAR NF16S- M2 Mainboard (Realtek HD Audio (disabled)) AMD Athlon 64 X2 2.2Ghz Dual Core Socket AM2 G.Skill DDR2 (PC 6400) 800Mhz Dual Channel RAM Western Digital 80GB 7200RPM SATA 3.0GB/s LG Super Multi DVD/CD Burner Combo SATA 3.0GB/s EVGA nVidia e-Geforce 8600 GT DDR3 256MB PCI-E X16 Diamond Xtreme Sound 7.1/24 bit PCI Audio Card. Microsoft Windows XP Home (5.1, Build 2600) SP3 Unknown 500W +12v dual rail PSU >>No Overclocking<< The headset is new, I just got it today. So it should most definitely work. Audio comes through the ear pieces perfectly fine. Neither 'Hardware Test' nor 'Sound Recorder' are able to pick up my voice via the microphone. Although there was an instance where a loud beep (steam friends) was picked up, through the ear pieces, during one of the 'Sound Recorder' tries. Any assistance with this problem will be VERY much appreciated. Thank You. Last edited by Shen2187 : 07-04-2008 at 03:03 AM. |

Re: Microphone Issues. Read for details.
Made some progress, if you can call it that.
I had a broken USB headset that still had a working mic. I ripped the Microphone off and wired it back into the USB cable. It seems to work fine besides the HUGE lack of noise canceling. SO... That leads me to believe that it is a software issue within windows, since I have had microphones working with this same sound card before. Just in a different computer with an older version of XP. It's probably got something to do with SP3. I guess the only real solution is to spring the cash for a good USB headset. |
