can faulty ram cause graphical weirdness ingame?

system specs:
Machine is a new build:

mobo: EVGA 780i
CPU: E8 core duo 3.00g
memory: 4 gigs of corsair DDR2-800 (DHX2-6400C5*4GB)
memory is a kit of 2- 2gig sticks
hard drives: 2 WD 250gb 7200rpm in raid 0
GPU: 2 8800GT akimbos in sli (the dual slot design with exhaust)
PSU: cosair 1000 watt
Operating system is xp 64 bit
then 2 optical drives asus blueray reader and asus dvd burner

all drivers are current, no overclocking has been applied

the weirdness was when i booted in world of warcraft,
everything was running great on high settings (in game)
i set the the nvidia control panal to aplication controlled on pretty much everything.
then i went to check character tab and noticed some blocking in the graphics certain effects lost detail so i restarted and everything was fine and then it happened again so this time rather than exited the game i just windowed out and checked the temps on the nvidia precision application and everything was running good with both cards at 50c when i clicked on wow tab and opened the game back up everything was back to normal then out of nowhere the game completely crashed i immediately clicked on the icon to load game
and upon entering my user and password info i hit enter to head in
and the game crashed and i got a memory error, so i went and
downloaded memtest and received cannot write to memory error
so first i went to the bios just to make sure timing were accurate
and that it had appropriate voltage and everything was good there
so i removed 1 stick of memory and ran memtest and received no errors
then i removed that stick and put other in and received no errors there
though when both are used regardless of slots used i get errors
so i issued an rma on the memory

but my main concern atm is the graphical weirdness i experienced
while in game , i used 1 stick of ram and turned the nvidia precision
software to auto on fan speed (this is the only edit i made i had the fan speed set on 80) by setting on auto i knew it would heat the cards up a bit so that i could test to see if something was a mis
i loaded the game up and played for prolly and hour and a half or so
temps reached 64c and i didnt experience any graphical issues i had seen prior. so is it possible that the ram being bad caused this issue
with the graphics or is that only gpu related?

is there anything similiar to memtest for video cards? just to make sure?

Re: can faulty ram cause graphical weirdness ingame?

Hi, yes...faulty RAM causes all sorts of weirdness.
If you can play a game for 90minutes with one stick of good memory, without problems, i'd say your video card is fine.
