When I press the power button on my cpu case, I see all the lights turning on but nothing is loading up.
What I see is black screen on the monitor, and the monitor (CRT) is blinking, as if it was turned on and the computer is on Stand by. The wires are all plugged in.... I am running Windows XP Professional with 1GB Ram and 130GB HD on P43.0Ghz Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Computer is not loading up but is ON
I am wondering if this could be a hard drive failure? Because couple of months ago I read some reviews of my hard drive... and some stated that it dies out pretty fast (within months)....

Re: Computer is not loading up but is ON
Hi mate,
Do you have on board graphic card or separate one??? Can you hear that PC is working [does fans are spinning inside the case]??? If you hear spinning, turn off PC, open the case and take out graphic card [if you have non-integrated graphic card ofc ^^] and clear with rubber connectors on graphic card... Also clean PCI-E or AGP slot [dunno which one you have] with brush... Tut back graphic card, close the case and turn on PC... If you still can not see anything on monitor then it could be either monitor or graphic card issue... Tell us what is progress... Hope this will help you... |

Ok yesterday when I turned it on, it started working (I even tried restarting, shuting down and it worked fine)
but today after school, I'm back in the same situation. It's not loading up again. Do you have on board graphic card or separate one??? RADEON 9600 Can you hear that PC is working [does fans are spinning inside the case]??? I see two fans spinning inside If you hear spinning, turn off PC, open the case and take out graphic card [if you have non-integrated graphic card ofc ^^] and clear with rubber connectors on graphic card... I haven't tried that and dont know how. Also clean PCI-E or AGP slot [dunno which one you have] with brush... Tut back graphic card, close the case and turn on PC... I used a hair dryer and took some of the dust out inside of the cpu unit. If you still can not see anything on monitor then it could be either monitor or graphic card issue... Still not working after using hair dryer |

Do you have on board graphic card or separate one??? RADEON 9600 Yes you have non-integrated graphic card... Can you hear that PC is working [does fans are spinning inside the case]??? I see two fans spinning inside Ok that is a proof that PC is working... If you hear spinning, turn off PC, open the case and take out graphic card [if you have non-integrated graphic card ofc ^^] and clear with rubber connectors on graphic card... I haven't tried that and dont know how. Ok if you do not know how to do that, you should let some friend who is more skillful to clean the case inside from dust, or take case to the maintenance work shop... From what you said, that your PC started working and suddenly stopped again, I think your PCI-E or AGP [still dunno which one you have] is dusty and you need to take out graphic card and clean slot, and put graphic card again into slot... Already told you if you do not know how to do that, take PC to maintenance shop... Hope this will help you mate... P.S. I think that your display monitor is ok, but just in case check VGA or DVI cable [do not know which one you have]... |

Re: Computer is not loading up but is ON
I'm facing a big problem right now. I think I made my computer worse now because I wanted to get more dust from inside the cpu unit so I took my hair dryer and put it on high speed (its hot) and took some dust out. When I turned the computer on, there was smoke that came immediately. It was very visible. Something was burning and I could smell it. So I turned off the computer immediately (never turned it back again). What's wrong here now? I'm leaving the computer to cool.... will the burning come back if I turn the computer on tomorrow?

Re: Computer is not loading up but is ON
Hi mate,
I can not tell you specifically from where that smoke came out because I was not there, but I can assure you that you did not made that smoke by some kind of mistake [with hair dryer you could not do that]... I think that smoke came from PSU [it is most likely]... |
