Power "Outage" Broke 1 (2?) Monitor(s)

Ok, so at about noon today I was on my computer, which has 2 19" Acer LCD monitors hooked up to it, and suddenly the whole room went dark. 2 other computers, the TV/cable box, and all of the lights in the room went out. Almost instantly the power lights for everything were back on, but neither of my monitors' actual displays turned back on, although their power lights were on and/or flashing.

So about a half hour later I've decided that one works and one seems to be broken. When on (power-wise) it gives a faint "clicking" sound accompanied by a nearly nonexistant flash.. That is, only some of the pixels flash, and very very dully. They are about a quarter of the pixels in a horizontal box/line about 3/4 down the screen.

After testing the monitor on other computers etc. I decide it's broken for good. Out 200 bucks. Damn.

So I still have the other one working fine and dandy... Later I decide to take one of the spare monitors and plug it into the port that my broken one is no longer using, so I shut down the computer (correctly) and plug it in. When I turn the computer back on, the monitor that I thought was working has turned a shade of pink... !%#$. The other monitor I just plugged in seems to work fine, though. I try plugging in the pinkish monitor into another computer, works fine. Plug it back into the usual one... Pink... Switch the ports between working and pink monitor on the same computer, they persist in their same states of being working and pink.

So I have this monitor that turns pink when plugged into computer A, but not when plugged into any other computer... And other monitors plugged into the same computer don't turn pink.

I'm pissed off and totally confused...

Anyone have any ideas what might have happened?

And yes, these were on a surge protector, and nothing else in the basement, or house, was damaged in any way.

Monitors are between 1-2 years old.

TLDR; can't be summarized.

Thanks,
-I'mThatGuy

EDIT: I have determined that the secondary computer has no green output, it's not a pink tint... It just looks that way without green.

EDIT2: Plugging in second monitor gave first monitor green back... Still have 1 dead monitor.

Re: Power "Outage" Broke 1 (2?) Monitor(s)

are you using dual monitors? have you tried putting any monitor u had into the same port the one that is messed up is in?

if you are using 2 on 1 comp and its only that port that is screwing over your monitors, i am afraid to say that your graphics card got screwed over because once the power outage happened, it shut down forcefully ( unsafely ) and possibly damaged that one port.

if this is not the case. could u clear it up a little bit? was a little confused reading this

Re: Power "Outage" Broke 1 (2?) Monitor(s)

Nothing is port-dependant. That is, nothing that happens in one port doesn't happen in the other.

At this point, my only problem seems to be that one of my monitors worked before the surge and not after. We don't even know that it was a surge.

Regardless, it was on a surge protector, and an identical model was on the same protector, and works, more or less, fine, now.

I'm wondering how the monitor may have been damaged and if it's worth going after the power company about.

Could it be their fault?

well, i had to replace my nvidia 8800 gt oc because 1 port didnt work and the other was fine.

monitors, like other parts, come with things like ( if its damaged within such and such amount of time we can replace it for you ) if u cannot get it to work, i suggest calling them up and asking

Also check the warranty on your surge protector. Some of the higher end ones offer damage protection if a item is damaged while plugged into them.

wasn't a high end one. but good news! I called Acer today, and apparently the monitor is within the warranty, so i get it fixed for the cost of 1-way shipping! =D
