USB - Xbox; Custom Female USB connector
What I am trying to do is make a cord that converts a cable type from USB to the Xbox port. I have the Xbox cord end to Xbox console part stripped and everything. I don't have any female USB connectors so I tried making my own female USB connector with a male one. I just flipped it and removed the metal casing. The male USB cord that I used is from some old game controller that only works with Windows 98/95 so I assume it's a USB 1.1 cable or something. I connected the wires from that to the Xbox cord. Then I plugged in my flash drive. About 5 seconds later, it started smoking!!! I removed it as quick as I could and tested the flash drive with the computer and it still works fine.
I assume that the xobx cord uses USB 2.0. Would it be possible that the flash drive is overloading because the xbox cord has a faster transfer rate or something? Two cords on the xbox cord are thicker than all other cords for all cables in this situation so that's why I think the other one isn't USB 2.0. If it's not because of the different data transfer rates, then I don't know what the problem would be... Could I try doing this with a USB 2.0 cord or is that just something that will not work at all? I don't know why it wouldn't. It's basically the same circuit but reversed so I switched the cords to the opposite. If it's not possible to do any of this without ruining anything, then should I just buy a female USB cord? Any help or solutions would be appreciated! My last resort is to buy a female USB cord so please don't say I should do that unless you know for sure the other ways won't work. Also, if this doesn't work, please explain to me why it doesn't work if you want to. Thanks for reading and being interested in my problems once again! -Relix |
