new LCD monitor, need help setting it up.
I just got a new LCD monitor and I need help adjusting the thing. Here is my list of questions:
1. it came with a DVI cable thats optional. What is that and do I need it? 2. Is it normal to feel funny from looking at a CRT screen for so long and getting my first LCD? I feel that the words could be crisper. 3. How do I know if it is set up correctly, I tried adjusting the display so that everything wasn't so big. I know I have more questions but I will start there. THANK YOU!

Re: new LCD monitor, need help setting it up.
SusannaKB,
The DVI is a special digital video interface cable that is only useful if your video hard or computer has a DVI output port. If not, you'll need to use a standard VGA cable. CRTs and LCD displays are very different and might take some getting used to. It really depends on the size, resolution and specs of the display(s) you're dealing with. There are adjustments that you can make to your new LCD display to make it look better. Your LCD display should have come with a CD or driver disk to install the monitor drivers which tell the video hardware of all the possible resolution, color depth and scan rate settings for you particular monitor. Right click on your windows Desktop, click on Properties, click on the "Settings" tab at the top, then click on the Advanced button, then click on the "Monitors" tab, click on the Properties button and where is where you can install a different monitor. The manual or CD that came with your new monitor should walk you through this. - John |

Re: new LCD monitor, need help setting it up.
I know it has been a little time since I started this thread but I am begining to think that I didnt set this monitor up correctly.
These are my questions/problems that I am facing: 1. How can I tell if the correct drivers are installed for this. 2. When I turn on my computer in the morning, the print and size of everything is fine at start-up until one or two seconds later the screen goes black and then the display is changed to wider blurry text. I have been observing it for a little while and I think that it may have something to do with ATI. 3. Sometimes, my screen will seem to flicker and have too much red in the coloring or even green. What is wrong? thank you for any help!

Re: new LCD monitor, need help setting it up.
what operating system do you have? [Windows XP or Vista?]
you might need to change the refresh rate or tweak/fiddle with the resolution and/or other settings. Tell us the brand and model of your monitor, if possible. that would help us in determining if there are any settings that we may change to resolve this. don't worry it happens sometimes when you switch monitors especially.

Re: new LCD monitor, need help setting it up.
try going into device manager and see if theres any yellow marks.
if not, then click on the plus sign on "monitors" and then right click on whatever you see. it should be either default monitor or acer al2016w and then select uninstall. that will uninstall the current driver you have. then restart the computer and let it find a install again. then go into device manager again to check whether the driver was installed. it should show your monitors name instead of default monitor. if this doesnt work, then post back for other possible suggestions. also right click on your desktop, select properties and go to the settings tab and tell us the screen resolution and color scheme it shows.

Re: new LCD monitor, need help setting it up.
I have attached a file which contains a driver file to cure that yellow sign you see.
Download this file and extract the folder as it is a compressed file. after updating the driver, see what happens. hopefully the problem will be resolved.

Re: new LCD monitor, need help setting it up.
in device manager, right click "plug and play monitor" and click "reinstall driver" Click custom/manual location, and point it at those files you have downloaded. It should now show the model number in stead of plug and play.

Re: new LCD monitor, need help setting it up.
Thanks for your help, but when I right click plug and play monitor, there is no "reinstall driver"
theres update driver (which didn't work) disable uninstall scan for hardware changes (which didn't help) properties any suggestions?
