Is it possible to use my laptop screen as a desktop screen when playing games etc...? because i cant afford a good desktop screen at the moment and its just a bog standard office screen, wheras my laptop screen is a widescreen, HD etc.. screen

Laptop monitors are only made to hook up to the model of laptop they work with. It may be possible to rewire it to work with a desktop computer, but I have never heard of someone getting this to work.
If both computers are on the network, you can remote into the desktop from the laptop using remote desktop or VNC.
