epson 2400 scanner not working

I run vista ultimate and my epson perfection 2400 scanner was working. Now, when I try to open it all I see is a blank little screen in the bottom left hand side of the monitor. I have uninstalled and downloaded a new driver from epson's website but the same problem persists. I have recently installed some vista updates but do not know if this has caused a problem. I am not tech savvy but would like some help please.

Is the scanner was working fine before this? Did you try to perform the system restore when it was working fine then?

The scanner was working fine before I installed the vista updates. What do you mean when you asked whether I performed a system restore? (I mentioned I wasn't tech savvy). I did uninstall the scanner via control panel and then downloaded the current driver from epson's website. Is that what you mean?

I uninstalled the driver for the scanner and reinstalled the new driver after the updates were installed.

The system restore is one of the windows application which will let you recover your system back to previous date state. I will guide you on how to perform the system restore on your computer, lets see if that work

Click Start, go to All Programs, choose Accesories, then System Tools, and then System Restore.

Choose the previous date, and see whether you can select the previous date where you can restore your computer to. Select the date when the computer and scanner was working fine (basically the date before you install the windows update

)

No can do. My 'Restore Systems and File Settings' dialog box does not give me the facility to restore back to a previous setting. Only the current date is given to me to use.

My scanner works on a another computer. The driver for the scanner I am using on my problem computer is up to date. Any other suggestions?

Try to uninstall and reinstall your scanner again on the computer, see whether it can work after that

What is your computer manufacturer, does your computer come with the recovery manager. You can try to perform the system restore first, and see if you able to return your computer to some previous date. If you still unable to perform system restore like previous one, you might need to perform the system recovery on the computer.
