Computer freezing very often

You can refer to this thread

non-malware tech problems

But, my computer has been freezing a lot for a long time and the below are what I've done to try to remedy it, without success.

1. Run virus scans with AGP and spybot, I also have used other and I use spyware blaster
2. Reinstalled Windows XP more than once
3. Ran memtest for 3 hours, no errors
4. Ran my hard drive's system diagnostic tool, no errors
5. I'm pretty sure I have all the driver's I'm supposed to (is there someplace I can get a list of every driver that my each piece of hardware has and what it is? Today I added the mysystem link in my posts with all my desktop system information.)
6. ran chkdsk
7. Replaced my computer's power supply, I now have an Antec 650 watt one.
8. Ran Defrag

Now I'm going to try Prime95 and Stress CPU. Also, here is what has been appearing in my event viewer logs. I just looked and I've seen I've been getting this error quite frequently: It says the source is ati2mtag, and when I right click and select properties it says: CRT invalid display type.

Here's another thread I found where someone was having some problems similar to mine, turned out the problem was his front side bus settings, which I could check, if I go into the BIOS, I wonder if I can

Re: Computer freezing very often

CRT invalid display type
tap f8 when booting and go into safe mode
reset the refresh rate to 60mhz

I changed it to 60 hertz,(but in normal mode, not in safe mode and reinstalled my video card's driver. I still get this problem and so it can't be causing my PC to freeze, since it's happened twice or three times (I just checked the event viewer again) since my last post and has not caused my computer to crash.

Re: Computer freezing very often

in the device manager uninstall the card
reboot tapping f8 and choose vga mode
when windows finishes rebooting
disable a/virus
install your drivers
reboot the computer
check what the bios lists the voltages and tempretures as and post them
are you still seeing this
CRT invalid display type

Haven't done that yet. I will, but:

I ran Prime95 starting last night at 12:30AM. I planned to shut it off at 12:30PM, so I got on my computer (didn't open anything, just moved the mouse to clear the screen save;I had been letting it run all that time) and it froze about 10 minutes before 12:30 (while running the program)

I didn't hear any signs that it was really pushing the PC, the fan running fast and stuff. I don't know what settings I was supposed to choose.

It's frozen 4 times today, since 12:20 EST: once like I mentioned, once when windows was starting up (I saw the desktop, it was loading systray icons and such) once when I tried to open firefox, and once more when I tried to uninstall ATI Catalyst Control Center.

I'm thinking of trying another CPU. I have a 478 pin configuration one, I figure I can get a cheap pentium 4 nowadays, I just need to find out the speed of my front side bus it set to so I put in the right one, my motherboard is right here

Re: Computer freezing very often

Front Side Bus: 800 MHz / 533 MHz / 400 MHz
as long as it's set to auto detect it will pick up any of these

Here are the processors my motherboard supports
http://www.foxconnchannel.com/Upload...61FX4MR-ES.htm

And, my BIOS is a Pheonix Award 11/05/2004-SiS-661-6A7I4FK9C-00-None

But, I don't have the option in my bios to set the front side bus speed to what I want, nor the option to set the processor to perform at that speed. Naturally, I want the Prescott 2.8 to run at 800Mhz on an 800Mhz front side bus, but it doesn't look like I have the option to choose.

What is it then? Can I just buy the chip that has an 800Mhz FSB and it will run at that speed?

Re: Computer freezing very often

the cpu will run at it's designated speed unless your m/b has options for over clocking
