computer not booting up

i apologise first off if this has already been posted elsewhere that i should have found without creating a new thread.

anyway, i have got a few problems with my spare PC. I have not used it for probably 12 months but am going to start using it again.

i have checked the hardware connections on the inside before i even turned the computer on and everything is seated firmly. i turn the computer on and i can hear the fans going, but i do not get the POST go through as there is no beep. i have also nothing coming up on the monitor as that is just on standby.

if anyone has any ideas on what i can try then please let me know on here.

thanks everyone for looking.

Re: computer not booting up

the cmos battery may also need replacing
turn the computer off
remove the power lead from the back
take the side off
remove the cmos battery
move the cmos jumper from pins 1 and 2 to pin 2 and 3 and the back to pins 1 and 2
replace the battery
put the side on
replug in the power lead
boot the computer
just sitting there not being used for a long time unplug and replug in everything

Re: computer not booting up

simbac, that's a good idea to see if it boots up with just the motherboard and CPU to see if loads up, i will leave the RAM out also as it should give me a fault beep and then at least i can start to diagnose where the fault is.
