My computer won't stay on.

My Gateway computer (Microsoft XP) has been turned off for a couple of months (I got another one). Yesterday I turned it on but it shut itself off after a few seconds. I don't get anything on screen. When I tried it again, it won't turn on, until about five minutes passed. Then the cycle repeat ifself.

Is this a laptop or a desktop?

It is a desktop.

If it has been moved around, pop the case open and make sure all the cards are seated well.
