Shuttle booting & freezing problem

Hey guys,
I bought a Shuttle Xpc SN85G4 and ever since I've had it, I've always had a problem with it.
When i first purchased it, id turn it on and it would always crash and over heat. So i went into the bios settings and put the fan on full.. which after a while i decided was just too loud and annoying.. so i then put it on 'smart fan' which dictates the speed of the fan in accordance to the heat of the CPU.
Anyway, so this didn't fix the problem as it would still crash every other day.. so i took the fan off and cleaned all the dust out.. and this seemed to do the trick.
Then i decided to put the fan down to the 'ultra low' setting, because it then remained quiet.. cos i leave my computer on some nights downloading.
The problem i have now though is that it sometimes takes over an hour to actually boot up.
It will turn on, all i will have is the fan running at full power.. and nothing else happening except the dvd drive switching over a few times. I don't really know why this is the case. Then once it finally decided to work, sometimes it gets all the way into windows then reboots again.. and again and again.. But once it boots up and is stable, then it stays on fine.
So i don't actually get what is wrong with it.. i just want to be able to turn my computer on and have it load up with no problem.. so then i wont be too afraid to turn the thing off at night thinking that it will take me too long to turn it back on the next day!
any ideas guys?
I've only upgraded the graphics card and the RAM, which i put another 512mb in.. to make it 1.5gb. I have taken the RAM out on occasions thinking that it might have been rejecting one or the other but it still does the same thing, whether i use 1gb, 512mb or both together. thats it, other than that the computer hasn't had any other additions

please help anyone because I'm actually just fed up of it!

Thanks

Fazz - Newbie
