I am sure that my DVD drive is mechanically damaged, so please if you know anything about mechanical repair of a drive please help me. It is not a driver or a virus problem.
Toshiba A130 running Home Vista, using a toshiba Model TS-L632 DVDRW. It can be detected in bios, in windows explorer, but when I try to read any CD's or DVD's it cannot read. Once put a cd in the light on the drive blinks 3 times and makes a noise but then stops. It cannot boot in Dos into a bootable CD. I can take the drive out, have done it a couple of times but to no avail. Brand new Laptop, just opened from casing, 1st time use and Drive not working. Warranty is out of question because I am staying out of US and am not applicable. PLEASE HELP. I can try to do whatever needed mechanically if advised. ![]() ![]()

Re: Laptop DVD drive is Mechanically broken
hi,
laptops come usually with international warranty (should be as they are mobile computers)... best to claim it. if you want to repair it, get hold of a service manual for it.
