19" Monitor resolution issues

By the way i don't know if i posted this in the right category. Anyways...

I just got a Acer widescreen LCD monitor, 19", and i am trying to configure my resolution to a widescreen. I set it to 1440 X 900(the max setting and I think the only one that doesn't distort everything). The other options are1280 X 1024, 1280 X 960, 1014 X 768, and 800 X 600. However(and I can't believe I am stumped by this), it extends the desktop slightly off of the actual monitor, to the point at which i have to bring my mouse over to the right side for the desktop to shift over about 4 inches in order to show the clock and taskbar, and then having to bring it to the left side to shift it 4 inches back to the left. I just want the 1440 X 900 resolution that doesn't require me to have to bring the mouse to the left and right to see everything, i want everything shown at all times. I am using windows XP home, with a Nvidia GeForce 7600 GT.

I hope someone knows what i am talking about.

Re: 19" Monitor resolution issues

Is that means your windows screen is larger than the monitor screen itself? Did you try to change other resolutions and see if that happened again?
