USB 1.1 and 2.0

I have a Dell Inspiron 530 desktop (with Vista) that I purchased last August. I have been noticing that when I connect a USB device to the front USB ports on my computer that I get the message that the device would work faster if connected to USB 2.0. I assumed that since this is a mid-year 2007 desktop that all the 8 USB ports would be 2.0 and not 1.1. I was told by Dell support last evening that all front USB ports on all desktops (by all manufacturers) have to be 1.1 due to system architecture (whatever that means). Since all the back USB ports on my desktop are already being used (printer, scanner, mouse/keyboard, etc.), and it is easier to use front ports, I was wondering if this information is correct and if there is anything I can do to get USB 2.0 ports on the front of my desktop. The 2.0 USB ports under Device Manager say "USB2 Enhanced Host Controller," while all the other USB ports say "USB Universal Host Controller" (see the exact listing of my USB ports below that I see when I go to Device Manager). Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Here is the list I see under Device Manager:

USB Controller
Intel(R) ICH9 Family USB Host Controller - 2934
Intel(R) ICH9 Family USB Host Controller - 2935
Intel(R) ICH9 Family USB Host Controller - 2936
Intel(R) ICH9 Family USB Host Controller - 2937
Intel(R) ICH9 Family USB Host Controller - 2938
Intel(R) ICH9 Family USB Host Controller - 2939
Intel(R) ICH9 Family USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 293A
Intel(R) ICH9 Family USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 293C
USB Composite Device
USB Mass Storage Device
USB Printing Support
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub
USB Root Hub

Since I'm still learning about computers, I'm not sure of what all of the above means.

Re: USB 1.1 and 2.0

Hi Linda3587 Welcome to TSF
The easyest way would be to get a USB HUB to plug in to the back. (you would remove one of the devices and plug it into the hub then plug the hub into that port). this can set on your desk top so you can plug your other devices in there.
