Old monitor shuts off

My workplace just gave me an old computer they had laying around for free and after getting it home and setting it up everything worked fine. On day 2 the monitor started shutting off by itself. I unplugged it and waited a minute and was able to turn it back on. Then it turned off again. Any suggestions?

Could just be a bad monitor...how old is it? Does it shut off completely or does the orange light come on.

Also, and it's a reach but it could be a bad power cable as well.

Do you have the resources to swap the monitor to see if this is a dying monitor or actually something wrong with the system?
