Half-Ram Problem

When i stick in a 256 RAM it comes out as 128 RAM
what is going on here :(

yeah, this actually just happened to me...I received memory that was labeled PC2700 and it was actually PC3200.

You probably have memory that is not compatible with your system. High Density Memory will not work in all computers. Most of the times it will only show half of what it actually is.

When did this start happening? It is possible the stick was mislabeled...

its not mislabeled i tried it on my friends computer it worked for him but not me :(
also when i bought my computer it had 256 and it worked fine

I have found in the past that some sticks will display as one size in one machine and double in others. Can't tell you why, but just that I know this to be true.

Question that has to be asked...what changed on your system from when the RAM displayed 256 to the time it displayed 128.

Also, where are you reading the memory size...during POST or on the General tab of System Properties?

my window once didn't start because of some virus and then i had to reformat and i think thats when the rams stop working
but i dont think i made any changes
Im reading my memeory in General tab of System Properties

uhhhhh is onboard video the ones where it is attached to the motherboard if so nopes
