Confused laptop is dead

i have a gateway laptop. i came home and tried to turn it on. nothing....i press the power button and nothing happens. it is plugged in through the ac adaptor. some say the motherboard is fried. i don't believe that, or i don't want to. where do i go from here?

Did you check to see if the power adapter is actually supplying power? Do you have a voltmeter?

the ac adapter is less than a month old. i have not checked that, but i will. i did try to start the laptop with another ac adapter from another lap top, but it wasn't a gateway adapter. i don't think that would matter.

I'll have to disagree here, it matters PLENTY! You need to have the correct voltage or you can do serious damage to the machine, this is not a good idea! I think it's time to take this to someone for some help...
