tecra 8000 video composite out

I have Toshiba Tecra 8000 laptop with the DVD-ROM configuration. In addition to the standard composite video output jack in the back, there is also a S-video (7 or 4pin) output on the side. The manual doesn't mention the S-video connector but says that connecting the composite video connector with a standard RCA cable to the composite video input input of a VCR or TV, I should see the laptop's display on the TV screen.

There is no indication on the video's adapter that a "TV out" is selectable nor does it show that multiple monitors are shown when the system is up and running (XP Porfessional). I've selected dual monitors as well as both PAL anbd NTSC(??) selections in the bios. I've tried to cycle between the two "monitor" devices by hitting the Fn-F5 switch, but if the system is not sending a signal to the composite video output jack, then doing that is futile. Anyone have any ideas?
