Re: This is so wierd!

How old is this computer? I have seen this on a socket A board that I think was a MSI, the heatsink clamps would clamp down so hard they would flex the motherboard and must have broken a solder trace and when left unclamped it would make contact.

I would not run the computer like this you could ruin the cpu in a matter of seconds.

Please list you full system specs, tell us how old and if any parts are under warranty.

Re: This is so wierd!

Make sure all the mobo screw that hold the motherboard to the case are tight and also make sure there is a standoff and mounting screw for each mounting hole in the motherboard.

I see you do indeed have a MSI board, I have also seen a board one time that when the heatsink was clamped down it would put a very slight bow in the board, this bow was just enough that the ram would not stay seated correctly anytime the heatsink was in place.

I found this by doing a bench test and noticed that the gold contacts of the ram where showing above the slot, unclip the heatsinkand the bow would disappear and the ram would seat corectly allowing the board to boot up. In this case as well as the one I discrbed above the motherboard had to be replaced.

You are right its weird and both times I had a bugger of a time figuring it out
