USB 2.0 card not operating
I have an Iogear GIC220U PCI USB card. None of the periphereals I have connected to it work thru it, but do work in the onboard USB ports.
The computer recognizes the card is installed, even found it after moving the card. I have tried 3 different drivers, moved the card to a known working slot, the card I moved worked in the one vacated by the USB card, and still nothing. To the best of my knowledge the card is not damaged. Iogear help suggested a different computer. While I see the logic, common sense tells me there is nothing wrong with the card and is most likely a problem with my old PC. Could this be a motherboard BIOS problem?? I have a Gigabyte GA-7VAX board, old I know, and had to update the BIOS when I installed an IDE controller. HELP |

Re: USB 2.0 card not operating
The card is recognized in device manager, no flags.
There is no reaction from windows, pings, when I connect or disconnect from the card. I have 2 and both operate fine in the onboard port, but neither in the card. |

Re: USB 2.0 card not operating
Apologies first. I have a GA-7DXE not a VAX, wrong board info.
I still tried what you suggested to no avail. Research will show this is an older board than the one I first mentioned so... I know the card works, I tried it in another computer yesterday, yes I took all precautions in handling and transportation. This is what leads me to believe it's a board issue but the reinstall of the chip drivers did not solve the problem. |

Re: USB 2.0 card not operating
The board should be able to handle a "simple" PCI card.
Are there any hardware conflicts? (Start > Programs > Accessories > System tools > System information > Hardware resources > Conflicts/sharing) |

Re: USB 2.0 card not operating
This was my thought also. I don't understand why the system recognizes the card, says it's operating properly and accepts drivers but doesn't work!!
I don't see any conflicts. I will try this again in another PC and see if it still works, if not then I know I had a handling issue that I am not aware of. Thanks for your time. |

Re: USB 2.0 card not operating
Before I ditch this, you peeked my curiosity.
I have 3 IRQ's being shared. One by my fax/modem and vid card, one by my IDE controller and sound card and the other by VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller. Before giving up, any suggestions there? |

Re: USB 2.0 card not operating
Some times you can force devices to use a certain IRQ in BIOS (much more difficult in Windows).
If you don't use the serial and parallel ports - disable them in BIOS. Your motherboard has an AMD/VIA chipset - the VIA sound and USB controller are probably on the (VIA) south bridge, so the sound/USB "conflict" isn't really a conflict. |
