Issues with mouse scroll wheel

My problem is simple. My mouse scroll wheel works in some applications, like Microsoft Word, but doesn't in others, like Firefox. It's quite a nuisance.

My mouse is the "Microsoft Comfort Optical Mouse 1000", or so it says on the bottom. It's just a simple plug and play mouse.

I've had this problem for quite a while, I can't remember when it started. I probably should have done something about it earlier.

I know my problem is extremely vague, but I hope we can sort it out

Hi and welcome to TSF.
Have you checked that you have the right driver?

Re: Issues with mouse scroll wheel

Not entirely sure how I'd do that. The mouse didn't come with a disk. The thing is though that it works in some applications, but not others. Firefox being the main one. Strangely, it works in Internet Explorer

Go to Mouse in the Control Panel and see what it shows for Connected Device. If it is not your mouse, use the drop down box to find it and click Apply and OK.

Re: Issues with mouse scroll wheel

There's no connected device option. There's a hardware option, but no drop down box O_o. On the hardware option there are 2 mice listed, if that means anything.

Re: Issues with mouse scroll wheel

That's strange. It must be device dependent then. I'll see if anyone else has any idea.

Re: Issues with mouse scroll wheel

I'm not sure. Did you use the disc that came with the mouse to load the driver? Check in Device Driver and see what it lists there. If necessary update the driver.

Re: Issues with mouse scroll wheel

Like I said before, no disk came with this mouse. It came with a little sheet that showed where to plug it in and that was it. It's just a plug and play mouse O_o

Re: Issues with mouse scroll wheel

This seems to be a Firefox specific problem. I refuse to use IE :[. I'm using the latest version of Firefox. Smooth scrolling and auto scrolling do nothing

Re: Issues with mouse scroll wheel

It does look like a FireFox problem but there don't seem to be any answers for it. I found this page on Google.

Re: Issues with mouse scroll wheel

If the mouse didn't come with a disk, does that mean you haven't installed a driver for it yet? Try this one, then reboot and see if the Mouse Properties looks like JohnThePilot's screenshot.

With the correct driver installed, there should be an option to change the scroll mode, either standard or MS office style.

Re: Issues with mouse scroll wheel

Installed the driver. I have a screen similar to John's now, but scrolling still doesn't work in Firefox. It works in other applications like Notepad and Word though

Re: Issues with mouse scroll wheel

Try the smooth and auto scrolling options again in Firefox now you have the correct driver installed. For my last mouse I had to play about with these 2 to get it to scroll properly.
