plantronics .audio 325 headset will not function

I recently bought a plantronics .audio 325 gaming and voip headset with boom mic..and it has two plugs. One for mic and one for headset. i plug them in, this AC97 audio configuration screen pops up, as well as "EZ-connection" saying i have it plugged in wrong. that i have it backwards?

So i switch them around. the headset one seems to be int he right port, but neither of the other ports work. the line in gets recognized as a mic plug in a line in port, and the mic port thinks the mic plug is a speaker plug.

Once, I had to plug it in completely differently than the plug indicated, and it finally read them correctly. However I stil had no sound, and the mic didnt' work either. It keeps telling me to please close any sound programs before starting. ><

My sound is on-board, and I have WIN XP home. I really need help cause I need this for work @ home and also for gaming.

no discs came with it. just the headset. i just plugged it in.
