Wierd problem with monitor.
Hi, I tried to use an old monitor today, and I plugged it in and it was fine, but then suddenly this happened:
![]() As you can hopefully see, it gets lots of lines running down the screen, and the run left to right getting faster and faster, and then slow down, then go again, increasing in speed and it repeats. I have no idea what's causing this... :( Can anyone help please? |

Re: Wierd problem with monitor.
Ok, I cleaned some dust, and it worked, but then it stopped again, now not showing any image on the screen at all. I'm using my original monitor now, so it's not the GFX card. I don't know what's wrong now, the monitor is getting power, but nothing is appearing.

Re: Wierd problem with monitor.
Ok, I've tweaked around with it, and have now got it displaying the message "Out of Range".
This is what happens in cases where the refresh rate is too high or low for the monitor no? I've set it to the default, aswell as a few others, and it seems to have no effect. Any ideas? |

Re: Wierd problem with monitor.
I tried an even older monitor with it, and that works. So I dunno. Maybe something is loose inside or something? How can I check?
EDIT: Ok, this is seriously wierd now. I replugged in the 19" monitor that wasn't working, and suddenly it did again. I then changed the options to make that monitor an extension of my desktop, and it started flickering again, so I reverted it to be a clone of my good monitor's view, but it continued to flicker. This is so wierd. Last edited by Darble; 11-01-2007 at 12:15 PM. |

Re: Wierd problem with monitor.
I think that the graphics card inside your computer is being moved around every time you plug the monitor in... I am guessing you are computer savvy as you are using dual-boot so can you check it for me?
Open your computer Hold your finger on a light switch SCREW for 10 seconds Identify the graphics card (if it is a new computer it is a long/short card protruding from the motherboard by a good several inches, it may have a fan on it, basically it is the thing that you connect your monitor to from the outside of the case) Take it out, give it a good dust blow and put it back in What happens now? Mikey. |
