My System

I can't take it any more!

Okay... tonight was the snapping point!

I can't stand this 19" LCD anymore. 1280x1024 is just WAY too small for me and it's getting really annoying for doing things like coding (it takes 3x as long for me to code something because of all the scrolling I have to do). I'm starting to wish I still had my 1600x1200 CRT.

So I want a new monitor. I'm thinking 24" to get the 1920x1200 res (I won't go less than 1200 vertical res). I also need an 8-bit panel, not 6-bit like the cheaper ones are (I do video stuff on this comp as well so I absolutely need to have true colors for that).

What brands/models do you guys suggest. I'd like to not pay more than $400ish since I'm already a poor college student (and really shouldn't be spending money on a monitor, but I'm justifying this by the fact that it will improve my productivity and thus improve my schoolwork). I hope there is an 8-bit panel in the $400 range .

Re: I can't take it any more!

The Dell 2007WFP is the only lcd I could find that I believe to be 8 bit for $400.....http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/p...9&sku=320-4688

Edit the Samsung 215TW is also supposed to be a 8 bit lcd...$449/349 with rebate ! http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...UNG-_-24001078

Re: I can't take it any more!

The problem with both of those monitors is that they are only 1680x1050 resolution. I just can't go that small. I'm wierd, but I need a lot of screen real estate.

I did find this one, but I'm a little concerned on the overall quality because the reviews of this brand aren't great, but it is pretty close to what I want to pay:

It looks like if the screen is s-pva, then that means it's an 8-bit panel. If it's TN, that means it's only a 6-bit panel.

I'll have to do a bit more research, but I'm starting to like that DoubleSight monitor.

Re: I can't take it any more!

Correct S-pva and S-IPS panels are 8 bit, TN panels are 6 bit....90% of panels are TN, and the majority of all panels are Samsung since they are the largest mfg of panels.
S-IPS are superior to the S-pva, but more difficult to find (Apple Cinema )
Dell 2007fp has a S-IPS
